selecting albums

i’ve been on the hunt for a beautiful album that i can offer in my packages, and i think i’ve finally found it!

as a bookbinder myself (i started my etsy shop back in 2007 (activity there has since lulled, poor thing), and created the bookbinding etsy street team in order to welcome and support fellow bookbinders and bibliophiles in a helpful community), it’s been very important to me to find a quality, heirloom album for my brides.

i searched through many companies and while i do like the modern, flush-mounted albums that are currently being offered by most studios, they didn’t quite speak to me. i ended up stumbling upon cypress albums, who handbinds their custom albums at their own studio using archival techniques and gorgeous japanese fabrics and materials. the kicker? the studio is located right down the street from me! ding ding ding!

i made an appointment and stopped by the studio one afternoon to take a look at their showroom. i was able to handle the albums and see what they’re really like in person, and i fell in love. the “magnolia” album was by far my favorite; the photos are matted with 4-ply museum quality mat boards with beveled-edge openings. i absolutely love the depth and texture it gives the images.

it really does give the photos such a fine art look. i will be offering this album in my packages as standard for couples, and i can’t wait to share it with them!

i also offer parent albums, and have selected the “whistler” book for this, which is a flush-mounted album using thin pages to create a more portable, lightweight book.

each package is completely customizable, and we can definitely work together to create the perfect album for you. other albums by cypress are also available to accommodate your needs.

want to see some more gorgeous images of their work? i thought so.

they also offer dvd presentation folios, which come standard with any of my packages.

what do you think of these albums? aren’t they exquisite?

business cards

the other day, i was asked if i had any business cards to give out, and realized i should probably get cracking on that! :)

i came up with this design and sent it in to overnightprints, my fave biz card seller. their cardstock is really thick and i definitely notice the difference so i’m a fan, plus they also do spot uv so you can have a matte finish card and make specific spots glossy! it’s fun. they do sometimes flub their cards (not unexpected, for creating mass products) like crooked rounded corners (so it’s best not to order from them if you’re on a time crunch and won’t be able to double check the cards) but when they do make mistakes, they get right on sending you some new ones and in the end i think they’re worth it. plus they always have discounts going on! gotprint is close by where i live so if i order from them i can actually go pick up my cards, but while their quality is good, their cardstock isn’t quite as thick and they don’t offer spot uv (at least, not for free that i know of?) so for now i’m sticking with overnightprints.

what do you think? for this first batch i made the acorn logo in the front and the url in the back glossy, and then i threw in rounded corners just to see how it turns out since they’re already so cutesy… perhaps not the most professional, but the bright colors make me happy so now i’ll just wait and see how they turn out! :)

flurr friday: shiba

hopefully soon-ish, mat and i will be renting a house instead of an apartment so we can get a puppy! well… maybe two. mat is dead set on getting a golden retriever (not exactly an apartment dog) and we’d feel bad leaving sirius alone (yep, mat named him already) so we’re talking about getting two puppies so that they’ll be friends.

we could just get two goldens from the same litter (cue eye-twitch at the thought of having to take care of TWO giant dogs)…. or we could get a shiba inu!

(pictures courtesy of my friend miki’s puppy’s profile on fb… “kojiro woof”)

i love shibas! they’re the cutest little foxy puppies ever! however, they’re notoriously hyper and apparently don’t really understand the concept of “stay”… which is probably why the shibas that i’ve seen out on walks around town are always wearing harnesses… not just leashes. hah!

but i mean, just look at that face! koji’s trying to eat all of the bread apparently.. hahaha. maybe it’s the japanese side in me, i don’t know, but i would really love to get a shiba some day ♥

…that’s assuming i can get over having a hairy smelly dog in the first place! ;)
